As we head into the colder and wetter months, getting laundry washed, dried and folded can become a harder task for many to undertake, especially those with a disability. Clothes in winter are generally bulker items to wash, it can be hard to get outside in the wintery temperatures and items drying when the mercury is minimal can be near impossible.
In the past NDIS has required an approved quote and a specific line item in your plan to get Linen Service. This meant that the option to get support with laundry wasn’t as freely available unless it was specifically funded in your NDIS plan. We are pleased to let you know that in recent times the NDIS has been making the Core budget more flexible. This had made it easier for participants to utilise core funds for a laundry service that can support in achieving your goals.

The laundry service can schedule regular ongoing services or a once off service which will include pick up of your dirty laundry, washing, drying, folding and return of your clean and fresh laundry. Providing you much with needed options and support for your laundry needs is only a few clicks away.
Laundry service can be funded from your core budget in your NDIS plan which means more participants can access funds for this purpose. Your core budget covers Consumables, Daily Living and Social and Community Participation sections of your NDIS plan. The core budget is the most flexible part of your NDIS funding and can be used in numerous ways so if you have funding in your core budget, it is likely that this can be utilised for the purpose of engaging a laundry service in much the same way as you would use funds to engage a Support Worker, Cleaner or Gardener.
Participants currently using the laundry service say that it has made a significant difference to them and their quality of life. Recently a 62 year old participant with physical and mental health disabilities signed up and found that the laundry service takes a lot of stress out of their life and allows them to spend time on the things that really matter to them. Just knowing that the laundry is taken care of is a huge weight off my mind, she said.
